John Nolan solo
I think most of us know that John has a solo project. But if you didn't know, go check www.myspace.com/johnnolanmusic
now! He did a few fan collaborations - fans sent him whatever music they had created and John added the lyrics/instruments he felt would go well with them - over the past few months and now they're up for free download at http://johnnolanmusic.bandcamp.com
/ My favorite is Not To Let Go. So good!
The even more exciting news is that John's first solo album, Height, will be released on October 27th, 2009 through Doghouse Records
. The album was produced by Mike Sapone. There had been talks about John being on Brookvale Records (the Long Island based, Looney Tunes/Derrick Sherman label) and they previously had a September 1st, 2009 date for the album. That's not happening anymore. Doghouse Records is the label to bands The Honorary Title, Limbeck, Mansions and Say Anything. John played a few shows in June in the Midwest.
His first merch as a solo artist:
You can get it here
. Or from John at a show near you.
Now he's on tour with Mansions and in August he goes on a short tour with O'Brother. I had the chance to go and see him play on the 25th at The Space in Hamden, CT. The show was really good, except very short. Camille accompanies him on guitar and keyboard and they're just cute.
New song (I Don't Believe?)
Not To Let Go (with Camille)
This Is How
Waltz #2 (Elliott Smith cover with Camille)
Ten Ton Shoes
Keep Calm, Carry On (with Camille)
It's For The Best
It Takes A Long Time (with Camille)
'Til It's Done to Death (with Mansions and Camille)
Screaming Into The Wind (with Mansions and Camille)
Hopefully I'll make it to Maxwell's tonight. Pablo's supporting. Yay!( videos + tour datesCollapse )

I know the NYC show isn't sold out yet, but would anyone be interested in buying a ticket to that show off of me instead of from Ticketmaster? I originally thought I could go to this show but now it looks like I can only go to the Providence one, and it would really help me out if someone could take the NYC ticket off of my hands. I could even sell it to you for less than Ticketmaster if necessary.
thanks and let me know if anyone is interested!

I posted this on the mesageboard but just in case some of you dont read it..
They didn't have a setlist for me to grab so I tried to type it in my sidekick as I went. Eventually, I forgot to keep up with it but they played quite a few new songs. They opened with Ex On Prom which surprised me but, since they were headlining and a lot of people were there for The Hush Sound, it at least let the people that only knew that one song hear that song. I was glad too, a few people left after it and they weren't there talking through every other song.
I know they played a new one called The Words We Say and another I didn't know the name of. Off the new cd they also played Buttoned Down, the Miracle That Never Came, and Soon We Will Be Living In The Future. As far as the first cd and the ep, they of course played Hands In The Sky along with It Never Gets Easier, Mistakes We Knew We Were Making, Its For The Best, Sympathy For The Martyr, Tool Sheds And Hot Tubs, and Your Name Here was the encore.
After the show, I spoke with Jeff, Michelle, and Shaun and Michelle told me that as far as who headlines (as I said before Straylight Run headlined this show) flip flops each night unless one band has played the area more than the other. which I think is why Straylight headlined here vs The Hush Sound, I think THS has only been around the NC area three other times where as Straylights been here 7+.
All in all I think it really comes down to drawing straws when they get there. An interesting thing I noticed is that they are once again in a bus. I am pretty sure that has to do with them signing again because on their tour with Kevin Devine/Street To Nowhere they had gone back to a van. And I understand that labels usually pay for busses.
I've got pictures and video (including three minute clips of the two new songs) that I will upload soon it just takes a while to get huge clips up on YouTube, you know how it is.

Quick question about John...
Just wondering if anybody else noticed he was wearing a wedding band this tour... when did he get married? BTW - they were absolutely amazing and I can't wait for the new album.

I just joined.. one for my love of straylight run and two kind of a promotion for my friend.
My friend is a film major and and he had to do a movie as an assignment.
he needed a mother and a father type so he put an add in the paper and a woman called for the mother. when they met up he found out her name was Linda Nolan.. thinking what we would all think it's a common name. reading over her resume it said I have sung back up for my son and daughters band. And he asked her your son and daughter wouldn't happen to be John and Michelle? and she said yes and he told her that he was a fan of their stuff and so on and so forth. I thought if anyone was interested they wanted to see the movie, I mean this has nothing really to do with the band itself i just thought it was so cool.
his myspace is http://www.myspace.com/filmsbyralph
the name of the movie that she was in was The Reflecting God. It's a really good film and check out the other ones he has up.
Also he couldn't pay her but she understood that he was a student and did the film anyway.
if this is stupid feel free to delete it.

Is anyone going to any of the upcoming Straylight Run shows where Kevin Devine will be opening?
(Okay, this only vaguely relates to straylight run so I apologize)
I have a huge favor to ask! If anyone is going to any of the upcoming shows, if you could somehow record Kevin's set you'd be awesome! I talked with him at the show with straylight run tonight and my friends and I mentioned that he should have had John Nolan come out and sing Cotton Crush with him, and he said it was a pretty good idea and he'd ask John about it! So if John Nolan actually sings with Kevin it'd be a pretty awesome thing to have recorded (I only wish someone had thought to suggest it to Kevin before tonight's show!)
Also, Straylight Run was the most energetic i've ever seen them on stage tonight. They did a fantastic job and played four new songs off of their upcoming album!

Do any of you know where I could find the Straylight Run version of Play Crack The Sky? I remember hearing about it, but I can't remember where.
Yeah, I can't use Kazaa or anything of that sort, but if anyone could Yousendit to me, or something like that you would be my favorite person on the StR Community.

Does anyone have "A Slow Descent"? Or any of the other demos that didn't go on the album? If so, I'd love them. But I can't use zip files for some reason. But... if you can get to me either on here, or a messenger, just tell me.
